Abstract

The architecture of connections characterizes the spatial system in terms of how its spaces are related to one another rather than how it is geometrically composed. The variations of connection elements had founded in the architecture of Madrasa buildings, suggested that the underlying design principles or these unwritten design methods of Mamluk architecture exists at the level of the physical form, and because learning from the built environment of Mamluks is a legitimate approache to improve the modern theories and criteria of design, the research aims to “Discovering the Methodology of Design by Connection Elements in Complex Buildings in Mamluk eras”, to achieve this objective the research shade light on the design criteria, the types of connection elements and design techniques in the architecture of connections in Mamluk architecture,. The research suggested a generative technique for the design of Madrasa buildings by the aide of connection elements, it come on five steps: pre design step (Design in Context), analyzing, designing the architectural connection elements, applying the design rules of the connection elements, completing the building design. This technique is a design guideline contains a set of design principles, which can be understood as a series of architectural grammar,
