Abstract
In an earlier article' I undertook a study of the archaizing reliefs of the Hellenistic period. Certain key monuments, such as the Four Gods Base and the base from Epidauros, which hitherto had been dated in the fourth century should, we discovered, be assigned to the second century B.c. I finally concluded that there remained very little evidence in support of the prevailing belief that an archaistic style proper had arisen as early as 400 B.c.
