Abstract

Adhesives have suffered through long-term development and depict their practical values in industries. From the traditional adhesive such as water-based adhesive, hydrogel and anaerobic adhesive to the novel adhesive like Voltaglue, different adhesives bond different materials together by their feature properties. However, the limitations in adhesives are still big challenges for their applications. The long drying time, the need for a permeable substrate for water-based adhesive, the mechanical strength and bad eco-friendly effects of the raw materials of anaerobic adhesive and the water electrolysis, uncontrolled kinetics, and low storage modulus for electrocuring adhesive all need to be concerned. Despite numerous impediments still exist, many investigations have been done to solve these problems. Some new methods realize extensive applications for water-based and anaerobic adhesives, and the potential in tissue repair, design advantages and on-demand synthesis have been improved in voltaglue. Herein, we review the three kinds of adhesives for their mechanism, applications, and future expectations and compare their similarities and differences in last, expecting it could be helpful for future studies.
