Abstract

Current perceptions of transition state theory (TST) exclude it from meaningful description of the sticking coefficient for partially covered surfaces. This paper extends previous work that enabled TST to describe Langmuir systems to the description of lattice gas systems with adsorbate interactions. A model calculation is presented illustrating the TST prediction of the coverage and temperature dependence of the sticking coefficient. It is concluded that the principal effect of adsorbate interactions on a lattice gas system is to cause an increase of the TST sticking coefficient with increasing temperature.
