Abstract
The Rumaila oilfield is a super-giant oilfield located in southern Iraq. Since the reservoir pressure dropped and water cut became higher and higher in the last several years, more and more natural flow wells have ceased. Since 2013, in order to maintain the natural flow of these ceased wells, the large-scale application of the through-tubing PosiSet plug for water shut off in the bottom interval water flooded wells has been implemented in Rumaila oilfield, with a very high success rate. Based on the actual operational experience in Rumaila oilfield, this paper describes the technical principle, operation steps and application effects of using PosiSet through-tubing plug for water shut off, and analyses the applicable well pattern for this technology and the key factor for setting depth design of the PosiSet plug.
