Abstract
Most rapid advances in a particular branch of medicine are seen to follow the publication of a particular paper containing an idea or suggestion which is sufficiently brilliant in its conception to stimulate even the most conservative. In 1956, Barnes, Corp, Loutit and Neal published such a paper and the great interest at present shown in America, France and in this country in Bone Marrow Transplantation in Man, has undoubtedly sprung from this. We have been particularly interested in the application of bone marrow transplantation to overcome the severe haemopoietic and lymphopoietic depression which follows large volume high dosage radiotherapy and also high dosage chemotherapy for malignant disease.
