Abstract

The paper discusses the principles of the signal flow graph method, which makes it possible to analyse planetary gear trains kinematically. Making use of the suggested principles, rules are presented for setting up signal flow graphs of planetary gear trains for various input-output combinations of the moving links and followers. Applying either the principle of graph reduction or Mason's rule, a method of determining kinematic quantities in planetary gear trains is put forward. This new method facilitates the determination of the transmission ratio and angular velocity of definite members in multi-stage planetary gear trains. Moreover, the article presents examples of the application of this method.
