Abstract

Local and integral methods of side-illumination fluorescence to measure losses in dye-doped polymer optical fibers and waveguides are described. The numerical simulation of the changes in the fluorescence spectrum at propagating in dye-doped polymer optical waveguide was carried out. Attenuation in polymer rhodamine-doped optical fiber was measured. Compares results of the measurements obtained by the local and integral methods of side-illumination fluorescence. The possibility of application of this method for measurement of attenuation in optical waveguides with liquid fluorescent core for the purpose of quality control of technical oils and dielectric fluids was demonstrated.
