Abstract
This study showed the results of coastline change after the placement of submersible geotextile tubes at Pademawu beach, Pamekasan, Madura in Indonesia. A hydrographic survey was conducted a year before construction to obtain information on topography and water levels. The Pademawu coastline is characterized by mud-sandy materials, which has suffered extensive erosion of up to 90 meters during the past 10 years. This erosion led to severe damage of shrimp ponds and the coastal vegetation belt. Consequently, the geotube construction was selected as a form of soft protection with the aim of re-constructing and restoring the initial coastline. Geotubes performed very well in absorbing the wave energy. Therefore, this study showed the results from 12 months of post-constructional field observation.
