Abstract
Mineral resources play an important role in social economy. With the expanding of mineral exploitation, the ecological environment of the mining area has been destroyed a lot. Coal mining subsidence is a typical phenomenon in mining regions. Take the south region of Tangshan city, which is a famous coal mining city in Hebei province in China, as an example, this paper discusses the dynamic monitoring methods on coal mining subsidence area with Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technique. Take advantage of multi temporal remote sensing images and ground data, with the help of GIS technique, five classes, namely subsidence pool, flyash, green area, bare soil and residential area are interpreted and discussed based on the statistic result. It can be learned that RS and GIS are helpful for dynamic monitoring on subsidence area. A good ecological reclamation example named south lake of Tangshan city is introduced. The research indicates that the ecological environment of coal mining subsidence has improved much and the ecological reclamation campaign since 1997 is successful.
