Abstract

Further evidence is given of the value of quick chemical tests in the diagnosis of potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and nitrogen deficiencies and manganese and chloride toxicities in a variety of crops, viz. potato, tomato, black and red currant and apple, grown at widely different sites. The tissue test results showed good agreement with those of other diagnostic methods and were of value in resolving the following complex nutrient disorders : (1) acidity complex in potato where potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and nitrogen deficiencies and manganese toxicity occurred together ; (2) potassium deficiency and chloride toxicity in black and red currant ; (3) potassium and magnesium deficiencies in apple.
