Abstract

AbstractSports-related eye injuries can lead to serious results. It is recognized that more than 90% of these injuries can be prevented by using appropriate protective devices. However, the utilization rate of protective devices by athletes is very low. Preventive strategies have been carried out to increase the awareness of eye protection. Several standards for sports eye protection have been developed in specific sports. Sports eye care should be designed specifically for sports or activities. Polycarbonate is the best material for eyeguards. Protective eyewear is specially made so that it is different from other spectacles. Physicians also play an important role in warning participants in potential risks and recommending proper eye protection. With the rules and legislation changing, the number of eye-injured athletes has been reduced by using protective devices. In the future, newer technologies are expected to be integrated with the design, material, and shape of protective devices to provide more effective protection against sports-related eye injuries.KeywordsEye and face protectionSportSports injuries, Ocular traumaEye protectionProtective eyewearEye injuries
