Abstract

Different high-strength sheet steel grades have been examined to improve the performance and reduce the weight of automotive wheel discs. This article shows that considerable weight reduction can be obtained by designing the stamping sequence (using numerical calculations combined with a multiaxial fatigue criterion) in order to use the steel grade at its maximum without damage. The metallurgical and mechanical characteristics of the steels are described.
