Abstract
This article discusses stomal ischemia and the causes and predisposing factors that contribute to this rare occurrence. It explores the principle of applying a glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) transdermal patch to an ischemic stoma following surgery to aid perfusion of blood to the stomal mucosa. The article also illustrates a case study in which an ischemic stoma was successfully treated with transdermal GTN.
