Abstract

We investigated the application of effective medium theory in tissue phantoms with terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Tissue-mimicking phantoms are fabricated with binary mixtures of Lipid/water, and gelatin/water as well as ternary mixtures of lipid/gelatin/water at different concentrations. The measured permittivities were compared with those calculated with the Bruggeman's effective medium theory (EMT). The lipid/water and lipid/gelatin/water samples match well with the model, while the gelatin/water samples do not.
