Abstract

Objective To discuss the methods and effects of the clinical pathway based teaching in clinical nursing teaching at the department of thoracic surgery. Methods A total of 60 college probationers from March 2013 to March 2014 at the department of thoracic surgery were randomly divided into control group and experimental group, with 30 students in each group.Students in the control group were trained by the conventional methods and in the experimental group were trained by the clinical pathway based teaching methods and the probation duration was 6 weeks.Before and after the probation, examinations were used to compare the effects of each teaching method, which included theory test, nursing skill test and clinical thinking ability test. Results The results of the theory test, nursing skill test and clinical thinking ability test of experimental group were obviously better than those of control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01). Conclusion The clinical pathway based teaching methods can improve the probationers' theories and operating skills and strengthen the ability of clinical thinking.
