Abstract

A battery thermal management system (BTMS) based on CPCM and heat pipe was manufactured and experimented directly in the e-bike battery cooling system under three different discharge rates and forced convection to simulate the actual driving conditions. The proposed BTMS was manufactured by incorporating the 20 % EG mass fraction into the PCM due to the mass stability, leading to an increase in the thermal conductivity of BTMS by 104 times. The thermal performance of the BTMS was carried out under 0.5C, 1C, and 1.5C discharge rates for 30 min of data sampling, using the actual e-bike, roller, and airflow to simulate the actual driving conditions. The proposed BTMS shows excellent thermal performance by reducing the battery temperature to 37 °C at high operating discharge rates. Furthermore, adding forced convection in the BTMS with an airflow speed of 3 m/s could reduce battery temperature to 35.25 °C under a high discharge rate, making the uniform temperature difference among batteries.
