Abstract

An iteration-variation method applicable to elastic and inelastic atomic collision problems is described. The method uses trial functions formed from a sequence of Born iterations and, making use of recursion relations, is able to save much computer storage space, particularly in inelastic problems. Convergence is speeded in cases where the iterations themselves converge, and is obtained also from diverging sequences of iterations. Examples are presented from electron-helium collisions (elastic), positron-hydrogen collisions (elastic) and electron-hydrogen collisions (elastic and inelastic).
