Abstract

Objective The purpose of this study is to assess the role of radionuclide scintigraphy in the diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum(MD).Methods 99mTcO4-imaging was performed on 19 hospitalized children with a history of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and abdominal pain. Results Among the 6 cases of negative imaging,MD was ruled out in 5 cases by operation and endoscopy(true negative),and confirmed by surgery and histology in one(false negative).Thirteen cases had positive imaging.Of them,12 were proved to be MD and ectopic gastric mucosa(true positive),and one was verified as jejunal submucosa vascular malformation.(false positive). The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of radionuclide imaging were found to be 92.3 %,83.3 % and 89.5 % respectively. Conclusions Pertechnetate abdominal scintigraphy is simple and easy.It should be the first choice of imaging diagnosis of MD. Key words: Meckel's diverticulum; Radionuclide imaging; Sodium Pertechnetate Tc 99m
