Abstract

Prostaglandin E 1 was potently anti-lipolytic to glucagon-stimulated lipolysis in isolated chicken fat cells and 0.5 ng/ml prostaglandin E 1 produced a 50% inhibition of lipolysis stimulated by 1 ng/ml glucagon. Chicken insulin had no effect on glucagon-stimulated lipolysis. Prostaglandin E 1 inhibited adrenalin and theophylline but not dibutyryl cyclic AMP-stimulated lipolysis in chicken fat cells. The possibility that prostaglandin E 1 plays a physiological role in the control of lipolysis in chicken adipose tissue is discussed.
