Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Previous work demonstrated improved survival in mice subjected to mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) given Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PSA) pneumonia compared to non-TBI. Additionally, 4 hours after administration of PSA, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid from TBI mice has significantly more neutrophils and fewer bacterial colony-forming units. This study examined the hypothesis that TBI improves neutrophil phagocytosis.
