Abstract

For many decades, studying the historical dynamics of environmental management and development of natural-anthropogenic landscapes in the central regions of the European part of Russia has remained a topical issue within the retrospective analysis of the human-environment interaction. The main research methods are field landscape mapping, retrospective reconstructions of natural resource management, and archaeological and historical data consolidation. The environmental management processes within the Middle Protva basin during the medieval period were periodized. A direct correlation between different forms of the management of natural resources and specific landscape conditions was revealed.
