Abstract

Drawbacks of osteocutaneous composite flaps for mandibular reconstruction following ablative resections of aggressive cancers include radiographic backscatter that interferes with post-operative radiological surveillance. This study investigates the stability of the myocutaneous anterolateral thigh flap for mandibular reconstruction in 35 patients, and compares the costs and quality of life outcomes with 28 patients who underwent mandibular reconstructions with an osteocutaneous fibula flap.
