Abstract

AbstractA new technique for the anionic polymerization of α‐methylstyrene has been developed. By using an aliphatic hydrocarbon as the diluent, hexamethylphosphoramide as promoter, and a poly(vinyl alkyl ether) as interfacial agent, the high molecular weight polymer is obtained as a uniform dispersion. The advantages of the method are high conversions at low viscosities and an economical isolation procedure.
