Abstract

Synopsis In this note numerical values are given for the angular distribution of γ -radiation emitted by oriented radioactive 60 Co nuclei. The calculations have been performed for the case that the spin of 60 Co has the normally accepted value 5, as well as for the case that the spin is 4. Numerical results are given for an arbitrary degree of orientation of the initial 60 Co nuclei and, in the second case, in dependence on a parameter which describes the character of the β -transition preceding the γ -transition. The numerical figures suggest a possibility to obtain information on the β -interaction from confrontation with experimental γ -ray distributions.
