Abstract
The angular and energy distributions of the γ-radiation from a 60Co source in water and iron has been measured in a semi-infinite geometry. Such measurements provide detailed information on multiple γ-ray scattering from which it is possible to calculate the γ-ray attenuation under complex geometrical conditions. The distributions obtained show that the maximum intensity occurs close to the energy corresponding to single scattering at minimum angle. The angular distributions have an exponential character with an exponent which varies linearly with the atomic number of the medium. The energy distributions are compared with the theoretical calculations of Goldstein and Wilkins (1).
