Abstract

AbstractWithin current research into the composition of the Pentateuch, the role of the takes an increasing role. As such, passages in which the occurs, are considered to be indicative of a (post-)Deuteronomistic redaction or edition. In this respect, Exod. xxiii 20-33 and Judg. ii 1-5 gain special attention. The present contribution firstly surveys the actual debate from the perspective of the relationship between both pericopes. Secondly, the function of the within the scope of Deuteronom(ist)ic literature will be dealt with. Finally, I will argue that the can be decisive with regard to the determination of the direction of dependency between both pericopes.
