Abstract

Gestational anemia is an important maternal and public health problem frequently seen in developed and developing countries. This study was planned to determine the prevalence of anemia, its causes, predisposing factors, complaints and .findings of pregnant women living at Adana Province Yenibaraj Primary Health Center (APYBPHC) Region, in order to treat anemic women, to guide those necessitating labor at a hospital, to educate midwives and fertile age group women and if possible the whole population about gestational anemia. 200 pregnant women at APYBPHC region were included in the study far the determination of gestational anemia. 40 (20 %) women did not participate in the study for different reasons. Sociodemographic characteristics, fertility status, of women were evaluated in addition to their complaints and physical findings. The mean age of women included in the study was 25.80 ± 4.99. The mean age for the first marriage was 20.2 ± 3.4. The percentages of gestational anemia were 51.9 %. The anemia rate was directly proportional to the rate of stillbirths, to the order of pregnancies and to the !ive birth rates.
