Abstract

Adrenal implants in the ventral prostate of unilaterally adrenalectomized, castrated rats had no effect on the histological appearance of the ventral prostate after 24 days. When similar rats were treated with polyoestradiol phosphate, PEP, 8 mg/kg, the ventral prostates were clearly stimulated but only in the lobe containing the implant. It is concluded that PEP increases the adrenal secretion of ventral prostate stimulating hormones or makes the ventral prostate more sensitive to such hormones.
