Abstract

In the recent years the demand inelectrical power increased exponentially, while power generation and transmission have been limited due to economic reasons and environmental reasons which increase the complexity of the system. The only solution is use of the Flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) it has a characteristics of controllability over the efficiency, reliability and flexibility. It is best over other conventional control method. The modeling and simulation of the unified power flow controller (UPFC) for power system stability and improve in power transfer capability. The UPFC is used to control the power by varying the impedance and voltage magnitude. The paper compares the voltage regulation by varying the load and placement of the generator with and without FACTS Device (i.e UPFC). The total Harmonic distortion is tabulated with and without FACTS device and fault analysis with and without the FACTS. The study is carried out on IEEE 3 BUS system, in MATLAB simulink; codes are used using load flow analysis algorithm. Results are tabulated, studied and compared. Voltage regulation is also determined by changing the placement of the generator, and compared with UPFC and without UPFC.
