Abstract

The utilization of the solar cell effectively promotes the use of renewable energy. Since the light intensity changes with the time and the weather conditions, the output power of the photovoltaic (PV) cells is also unstable. It is a common way of using the storage device to stabilize the power fluctuation. Firstly, a control strategy of the hybrid energy storage consisting of battery and super capacitor is presented in the paper. Then the transient characteristics of photovoltaic systems with hybrid energy storage system (HESS) are investigated by simulation experiment, which include the transient behavior with a sharp change of light intensity and the transient characteristics in a three-phase short-circuit fault. The advantage of super-capacitor in the hybrid energy storage system is also analyzed in the transient process. Finally, some conclusions about the transient characteristics of the PV system with the HESS are summarized.
