Abstract

Liver scanning, using both colloidal gold-198 and needle biopsy, was studied in order to find whether these methods are suitable for the prognosis of various liver diseases. ln the case of hepatoma, the scintigram of the liver shows defective figures while the liver function remains almost normal. In the cases of cirrhosis, there are times when a normal liver scintigram is shown in spite of the liver dis order. When the cirrhosis does show on the scintigram, it is due to misinterpretatton. On the other hand, scintigrams for needle biopsy are very helpful in diagnosing some liver diseases. The correlation of liver parenchyma and the reticuloendothelial system in the liver was studied, and it was found that injury of the reticuloendothelial system confirms the disorder of the function of liver parenchyma.
