Abstract

Silver staining of polyacrylamide gels is a technique which has been used in the past for detecting trace amounts of proteins and more recently to visualise nucleic acids. Here, the analysis of microsatellites using silver staining of nondenaturing polyacrylamide gels will be described in detail, while providing the reader with references for further reading on details of the use of silver staining for other analyses (Kruchinina and Gresshoff 1994; Promega Corporation 1993; Sanguinetti et al. 1994).
