Abstract

The development and human activities that occur in the area will certainly affect the quality of the water and influence the lives of the organisms contained therein, such as macrofauna and benthic organisms. The Citarum River is the longest river in the province of West Java, Indonesia. The goal of this study is to find out how the physical and chemical properties of water in the upstream, midstream, and downstream of the Citarum River are related using the water quality pollution index and the biological monitoring working party’s average score per taxon for macrozoobenthos. Water quality parameters include degree of acidity, depth, current speed, dissolved oxygen, temperature, total suspended solids, biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, nitrate, and phosphate. The research data was processed using the pollution index and biotic index bmwp-aspt, as well as Pearson correlation. A total of 15,584 individuals belonging to 39 genera and 32 families of macrozoobenthos were found. With a pollution index between 0.78 and 5.65 and a biotic index between 2.00 and 5.53. The conclusion from this research that has been carried out is that the correlation between the pollution index and the BMWP-ASPT biotic index is very strong, with a value of -0.80.
