Abstract

To investigate macroscopic property changes and microstructural evolution of 1020 steel with different strain rates under cold beating, the experiment of split Hopkinson pressure bar high-speed cold beating of 1020 steel at strain rates from 2 × 103 to 4 × 103 S−1 was conducted. We studied the variation of flow stress and elastic modulus as a function of strain, yield strength and strain rate and the variation of microstructure with strain rate. The dynamic response character of the microstructure of the material at different strain rates and the mechanism of change of microstructure on the macroscopic properties of the material is revealed.
