Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influencing factors related to global competence (GC) on the value dimension of students in Hong Kong, China. Variables concerned global competence at the value dimension from different types, i.e., students’ interest in learning about other cultures, perspective-taking, adaptability, respect for people from other cultural backgrounds, awareness of intercultural communication. Support Vector Machine (SVM) was applied to analyze this relationship between the value dimension factors and students’ global competence ability among Asian young students. A total of 2,810 participants from 1,265 schools across Hong Kong, China were drawn from PISA 2018 database. The study shows that the 30 key variables divided into four categories constituting the most ideal trait set, which jointly affect the overall ability level of Hong Kong, China Students and play an important role in global competence. Overall, individual factors play an important role in influencing students’ global competence, but the influence mode of influencing factors varies from level to level, which is worthy of in-depth exploration in the future.
