Abstract

The analysing powers of Cd, Sn, Sb, Te and I for the elastic scattering of 3 MeV neutrons have been measured at 7 degrees intervals from 20 degrees to 167 degrees . The differential cross sections have also been measured. Scattering samples of natural isotopic abundance were used. The measured values are compared with the results of optical model and Hauser-Feshbach calculations based on parameters proposed recently for low-energy neutron scattering in this mass region. Optical model parameters which give a best fit to the data are also found and discussed. It is found that the spin-orbit potential in this region is less deep and less diffuse than that usually employed.
