Abstract
This third volume of The American Review of International Arbitration is wholly devoted to a collection of essays dedicated to Professor Hans Smit of the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law at Columbia University on the occasion of his 65th birthday. The standard of the work is worthy of its celebration. The essayists are a team of eminent international scholars and practitioners, some with a foot in each camp, whose collective contributions well reflect the breadth, richness and diversity of the international arbitral process. The 19 essays are grouped under four, albeit somewhat high-blown, titles namely, ‘Theoretical and Doctrinal Considerations’, ‘A Process in Evolution’, ‘Emerging Issues’, and ‘National and Regional Treatments’. The temptation to itemize each essay and its theme will be resisted in favour of a more summary sample of what the text has to offer.
