Abstract

Four genera of the subfamily Alydinae ( Alydus, Megalotomus, Burtinus, and Tollius ) are grouped here as the Alydus -group. They are distinguished from other alydines by several features of the male genitalia, particularly their possession of surcapsular spines. These spines are long outgrowths of the genital capsule's dorsal rim. Euthetus is the sister-group of the Alydus -group, the five genera having a forewing stridulitrum and a hindfemoral plectrum. Other aspects of the genital capsules' morphology are discussed.
