Abstract
An infinite-alveolus model of the lung is developed with a continuous distribution of local alveolar ventilation and local perfusion. In this model we treat only linear distributions of these two variables. First approximations to the exact analytic expressions are derived for the alveolar-arterial partial pressure difference for both oxygen and carbon dioxide, that is, the A-a P O 2 and the A-a P CO 2 differences.
