Abstract

According to the manuscripts, the treatises Leg. all. land 2 are but parts of a single treatise interpreting Gen 2:1-3: I a. l Treatise 3 is called number two in the manuscripts. This treatise contains an exposition of Gen 3:8b-19. After a brief introduction in 1:63-64, particular phrases and words are interpreted in two sequences, one in 1:65-73 and the other in 1:74-87. More specifically in the Allegorical Commentary, as exemplified in the present study by the treatises On the Giants, On the Unchangeableness of God, and The Allegorical Laws, Book 1, the structure of a running commentary is basic, and in the expositions, the form of question and answer and various forms of direct exegesis are found. Thus Philo has a differentiated use of secondary texts and/or biblical examples. In his Allegorical Commentary Philo has as basic structure, the form of a running commentary. Keywords: Allegorical Commentary; Philo
