Abstract

This chapter describes notable progress of the aldol reaction involving group III enolates during 1990–2023. Novel approaches for controlling the stereochemical outcome, expansion of applicable substrates, and application of miscellaneous enolate formation to the aldol reaction are the topics regarding the update of the boron-mediated aldol reaction. Newly developed boron-catalyzed aldol reactions of silyl enol ethers, ketones, and carboxylic acids are also included in this chapter. In addition to the boron enolates chemistry, unique examples involving aluminum enolates, such as vinylogous aldol reaction, retroaldol–aldol reaction, and Michael-aldol reaction are summarized.
