Abstract

The air kerma-rate constant Γ δ , and its precursors, as one of the basic radiation characteristic of 226Ra in equilibrium with its decay products, was determined by many authors. Analysis of accessible data on this quantity led us to the conclusion that experimental data are very precise, but in the same time calculated data are rather inaccurate. That is reason we calculated this quantity on the base of our gamma-ray spectrum data of 226Ra in equilibrium with its decay products and latest data for mass energy-transfer coefficients. In this way we obtained for Γ δ value of (58.9±2.4) a Gy m 2 s −1 Bq −1 for unshielded 226Ra source and (53.4±2.2) a Gy m 2 s −1 Bq − for standard radium source packaged into 0.5 mm of platinum.
