Abstract

The final war peasants waged with landlords in Russia has been comparatively well-studied in the pages of our history. a solid tradition of research on this problem has existed since the 1920s; qualified scientific workers have mapped out the direction scholarly work should take and have devised a methodology for analyzing several clusters of sources. Finally, this problem has fewer blank spots than any other area. In a word, on this subject, probably more than on any other, data have been compiled free from political constraints. However, even this aspect of our historiography has its own mythology.
