Abstract

Details are given of miospore distributions and zonation in the British Upper Coal Measures. These are compared with miospore distributions in strata of comparable age in France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and parts of Russia and the United States. Various published correlations of these strata are discussed and an amended correlation between the British and French sequences suggested. It is concluded that there is as yet little palynological evidence for the presence in Britain of Carboniferous strata of an age younger than that of the Westphalian D stage.
