The AGATA Campaign at GANIL

Abstract

The Advanced Gamma Tracking Array, AGATA, is presently in its construction phase in which the European γ-spectroscopy research community is involved since several years. This powerful HPGe array offers unique possibilities for the study of rare phenomena in nuclei by detailed gamma-ray spectroscopy. The physics campaign in GANIL foresees different setups, with AGATA coupled to different spectrometers, to study nuclear structure properties of nuclei all across the nuclear chart, from light nuclei to very heavy species, using stable and radioactive beams. After a brief description of the AGATA concept, some recent results are presented together with the very interesting opportunities for nuclear structure research in the forthcoming years with AGATA at GANIL.

Highlights

As you may know, the GANIL facility will host the European AGATA germanium array during 2014 and 2015
Large part of the beam time delivered every year will be available for the AGATA campaign and one PAC meeting per year is foreseen
In order to elaborate a scientific program compatible with the availability and development of the different experimental setups, it has been decided that the first part of the campaign will be devoted to those experiments that will use AGATA alone or in conjunction with VAMOS and/or EXOGAM2

Summary

Introduction

The GANIL facility will host the European AGATA germanium array during 2014 and 2015. Dear Colleagues, this is to inform you about the outcomes of the First AGATA@GANIL Workshop (February 1820th) and the future plans for the scientific campaign. During the Workshop the different ancillary and complementary detectors were presented and 44 of the 47 letters of intent (LoI) submitted were discussed. A new request to prolong the campaign in 2016, when the radioactive beams from SPIRAL1 will be available, has been submitted to the ASC.
