Abstract

For the last hundred years the majority of publications concerning the idea of beauty and art have been of a psychological character, their subject being the human response to beauty and art: what is called the aesthetic experience or sensation; its properties, elements and development have been investigated; the nature of the mental attitude required has been enquired into. It has been deemed to be the main issue of aesthetics; It has been regarded, in an exaggerated way, as the sole issue, other issues being illusory and unscholarly.
