Abstract
The adsorption of sucrose on mercury from aqueous 0.7953 M NaF has been determined from differential capacity and electrocapillary measurements. The compound shows the typical characteristic features of an organic adsorbate and obeys a Frumkin isotherm with a saturation molecular area of 0.68 nm 2 per molecule. The interparticle interaction is repulsive and the standard free energy of adsorption is a quadratic function of the electrical variable with maximum adsorption occurring at the point of zero charge. The contrasting behaviour of sucrose at the uncharged mercury and air interfaces is discussed.
