Abstract

The adsorption of n-butanol at a free solution surface from formamide + n-butanol mixtures has been studied using surface tension measurements. The data were analysed quantitaively to obtain the surface pressure and the Gibbs surface excess of n-butanol as a function of bulk alcohol activity. Then, on the basis of a numerical program, the Frumkin isotherm constants were determined. The adsorption properties of n-butanol were compared with those published in the literature for adsorption of n-butanol from 0.002 M KPF 6 solution in formamide on a mercury electrode.
