Abstract

Information Technology (IT) has been a topic a great discussions for decades. Over the years, much has been written on the subject of technology system but relatively little about the successful adoption of IT. In recent years, however, the issue of IT has grown in importance and has been widely discussed in Malaysia in particular the public sector. At present, IT as a part of the government's information technology plays an important role in order to improve the day-to-day operations as well as improving the quality of services provided to the public. In other words, government has recognized the importance of IT, therefore, several steps to adopt IT in the public sector has been organized by government such as; provide sufficient budget for IT development, develop favorable IT policies and plans for the agencies and departments. The government, however, must understand what are the factors that could affect the successful adoption of IT. This study investigates those factors that can influence the success of IT' s adoption in the Malaysian public sector. Thus, the main objective of this research is to identify the factors that could influence the success adoption of technology system in the public sector. Once these factors are recognized, these results can assist government agencies and departments to minimize the risk of failure when they are adopting any technology system. According to Laudon (1998), about 75% of all large systems are failing to operate.
